Seminar Topic:

August 27 Charles O'Hara, Earth Resouces Center, Mississippi State University, "Remote Sensing and Spatial Data for the CSX Railroad Relocation EIS"
September 3

Roger King, Mississippi State University, "Lessons learned from a year as a Washington Bureaucrat".

After a year of work within the Washington beltway what have I learned besides not to drink Potomac water? I will share some of my experiences and lessons learned from such a wide ranging field of topics as:
- How to avoid being shot by a sniper or ran over by a white van.
- OMB vs congress - Who has the real power?
- Why is it that in Washington if you are asked to organize a meeting that you're not high enough to speak at it?
- Can I affect the budget process?

Dr. King recently returned from a 1 year assignment at NASA HQ in Washington, DC. At NASA he served as the Chief Technologist for the Earth Science Enterprise's Applications Division. While at NASA HQ he was assigned to work on a variety of topics ranging from the NSPD on commercial remote sensing to the recent Earth Observation Summit to managing the Division's $70M research budget.
